Feminism
Being a feminist is not fighting to bring down another gender, it’s about fighting to equalize the social hierarchy.
Sexism
“Sit like a woman”
“Sports? That’s for boys”
Women on a daily basis are victims of such sexist comments, the worst thing about these comments is that they have been normalized in society.
Gender inequality has been detected for hundreds of years and still exists to this day. Either in religious practices, in professional workplaces or just on a general basis. Let’s be honest, women can handle just about anything a man can handle. The limits of women which existed in history and somewhat still do is the thing that bothers me. The fact that not long ago, we weren’t legally allowed to vote is worrisome.
“Don’t tempt a boy. Boys will be boys” We tell girls when in reality, we should be telling and teaching men to respect women and everyone else. It’s a touchy and sensitive subject, I know but maybe that's the reason, so many cases of gender inequality exist on a daily basis.
Examples of inequality in our society
In history, people (especially the Indian community) have worshipped sons more than daughters. Even nowadays, people want to have sons instead of daughters and when a daughter is born, the woman is blamed for it. Scientifically, the male sperm decides the gender and yet, the woman is blamed for a daughter.
Society tells women to “cover themselves up” when in reality, they should be telling men to be “respectful and to respect a woman.” How is this fair?
In history and nowadays, men have been given the responsibility to look after women. I don’t need you to look after me or protect me, I need you to not hurt me just like you wouldn’t with others. Respect me.
“Women belong in the kitchen” Not to be rude but who exactly came up with this sexist statement? Who are you to tell me where I belong?
When a marriage doesn’t work out, and a man and woman split up, then the woman is known to bring “shame to her family” and when it comes to the man then “He didn’t like the girl, so he didn’t!”
Divorcee, Widow, Single. Tags women have trouble with, men don’t
Toxic Masculinity.
From a young age, boys are told that “boys don’t cry”. This causes them to repress their emotions. All that anger and sadness comes out in a certain negative way such as aggressive actions.
Did you know repressing your emotions and feelings causes a shortening of life? It’s scientifically proven that men usually live shorter lives than women. I wonder why. Probably because men are taught to hide their emotions because it’s not “masculine to show emotions”. What a world we live in.
