The following poems are an insight on the ongoings of a Toxic, Abusive and Manipulative relationship. This poem was inspired from a recent Topic we covered in school. We were talking about Mental Wellbeing, I went into detail about Relationships, more specifically Toxic Relationships and their affects on Mental Wellbeing. This poem is from the point of view of the husband who is, in this case, the abuser.

we met on the 2nd avenue subway,
you seemed so true, so free
you charmed me with your sense of self,
you brought me down to one knee,
it all was going so well,
until 17th March, it was a thursday
you pissed me off, i started to yell
from words to actions, our relationship started to decay
but it was just once,
im just a man,
what do you expect?
no matter what, you’re just a fan,
im a man, i deserve respect.
i had a long day,
it happened again,
our relationship began to further fray,
but it was just twice,
i already said i was sorry,
im usually so kind, so nice
what more do you want from me?
can you smile a little more?
you’re always so sad,
i brought you flowers,
cant you just be glad?
you say you’re depressed,
it’s all in your head,
you’re fine, trust me,
take your mind off it, go cook for me instead
it happened thrice,
don’t you think you deserved it?
im just a man,
i know I’m not perfect
but neither are you,
all you do is weep and wail,
cry all day,
i no longer care
what more do you need?
you have a loving husband
it’s just attention you seek,
you’ve let yourself go,
you don’t try to look pretty anymore
i found someone new,
you’re just too sad,
she reminds me of the old you,
you’ve just gone mad
go back to being the girl on the second avenue subway,
you say you wanna leave and once again be free,
but i said i was sorry,
i love you darling, please don’t leave.
